YEAR B:HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 17TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: KINGDOM OF GOD, WORTH MORE THAN RICHES

BY: Fr Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 13:44-46) Wednesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel Jesus gives the parables of the buried treasure and the pearl of great price. When one is faced with those opportunities, everything is done in order to secure them. They are life-changing possessions. As Jesus said, both founders went as far as selling everything they had to have those treasures. Anyone would do that. But the point of the parables is the discovery part. While we claim to know the Lord and have seen Him, have we really discovered Him as our pearl of great price?

This is only achieved through sincere and deep prayers like meditations and contemplations. The discovery can only happen if we seek to find the Lord in the Spirit. And it is not somewhere out there. Not in the churches, shrines, grottos, and other holy places. The journey is inward. That makes it proximate but difficult. If we are patient and regular in our inward journey, we will find God there in our hearts.

The Kingdom of God is more than all the riches in this world. It is much stronger than any power we know. The whole world fails in comparison to the Kingdom. The Good News is that God had placed it in our persons. Let us together journey inwardly by spending quiet time with the Lord.
