Despite our fear of hell and our hate for satan why do christians still disobey God?

Since we all know what is expected of us as Christians, why then do we sin knowing the doom that awaits sinners?

We Christians are being reminded in today’s first reading about the reality of the end times and how man would be judged.

And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done.” Rev 20: 12

“And if any one’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” Rev 20: 15

Despite our fear of hell and our hate for satan why do we still disobey God and go against his will?

We cannot say “it’s because we did not know that it is sin” because every Christian already knows what is expected of them. We already know the difference between right and wrong. God said “The new covenant that I will make with the people of Israel will be this: I will put my law within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people” Jer 30: 31

Since we all know what is expected of us as Christians, why then do we sin knowing the doom that awaits sinners?

It’s because holy living is a grace in itself and God grants it to whomever he pleases. This is why we should keep praying for the grace to love God and to remain true to him till the end.

We are also called to meditate more on the life of Jesus and on his holy love for humanity. A soul whose mind is filled with thoughts of Jesus is soon inflamed with a fervent love for him. And a heart which loves God would desire only to please him.

Have recourse to God’s mother. She is the mediatrix of all graces. God has bestowed upon her, the power to pour out his grace on whoever she deems fit. Turn your mind to her as frequently as possible that she may teach us to love God perfectly.
