15TH FRIDAY HOMILY OF THE ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: EMPTY YOURSELVES!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Isaiah 38:1-6,21-22,7-8/Psalm: Isaiah 38:10-12,16/Matthew 12:1-8

What was the major problem the Pharisees had today? Understanding! They knew the law, but they didn’t understand it. In the new law, Jesus becomes much more important than anything else, even the Sabbath. This is why Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for accusing his disciples of eating ears of corn on the Sabbath. We too can be so full of knowledge, that there isn’t any space left for understanding.

Friends, instead of looking around at others, and trying to do God’s work of judgement for Him, why not rather spend time putting our own affairs in order as Hezekiah was asked to do in the first reading of today? Perhaps God will look upon us and say “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will cure you…” Let us leave all we think we know and follow God with simple hearts. A cup that’s already full can’t be filled with anything anymore. May God give us wisdom, knowledge and understanding of his will, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
