18TH SUNDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

18TH SUNDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: “SIR, GIVE US THAT BREAD ALWAYS”
BY: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu
Exodus 16:2-4, 12-15; Ephesians 4:17, 20-24; John 6:24-35
This Sunday is the 18th in ordinary time (Yr. B). Jesus is the bread of life. If we follow him with strong faith he will multiply our bread. Like the people we will tell him, “Sir, give us that bread always” (Jn. 6:24-35). Last Sunday we read about Jesus feeding five thousand men with five barely loaves and two fish. This was possible through the generosity of a boy in the midst of the crowd. The young man assisted Jesus through the gift of his bread and fish. Jesus multiplied what the boy offered him. In the same way, Jesus multiplies our offerings to him.

Our generosity can help in feeding many people who are hungry across the globe. When the people of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron for bringing them into the desert to die of hunger, God did not abandon them. “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Now l will rain down bread for you from the heavens'” (Ex. 16:2-4). God cares for us always.
Our lack of faith has made us to forget what a generous God we have. This is why Paul says, “I want to urge you in the name of the Lord, not to go on living the aimless kind of life that pagans live” (Eph. 4:17, 20-24). Life in Christ is the life of faith. It is life that trusts in the ability of Jesus to care for and save his people. We must be renewed through a spiritual revolution. May God bless us as we feed on the bread of life who is Jesus in the Bleseed Eucharist, amen. Happy Sunday.
