1ST WEDNESDAY HOMILY IN ADVENT — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: “HOW MANY LOAVES DO YOU HAVE?”
BY: Bishop Anthony Ewherido
Isaiah 25:6-10, Psalm 23, Matthew 15:29-37
In addition to preparing God’s way into our hearts and renewing our relationship with Christ, Advent season highlights the imperative of concern for the plight of those around us, especially the poor, the underprivileged and the class of people central to Jesus’ actions in today’s gospel. God blesses us so that we may be God’s agents and blessings to those around us; sent to respond to others’ emotional, psychological, social, intellectual, moral, physical, material, and spiritual needs.

Jesus, in today’s gospel, catered for the people both spiritually (healing, forgiving, casting out demons and teaching them the message of God’s kingdom) and physically (healing and feeding them). The little that the disciples had formed Jesus’ foundation for the miracle that fed the multitude. Everyone has something to offer in these circumstances. Instead of offering excuses and thinking impossibilities, God urges us to put the little we have at his disposal and he will bless it for phenomenal outcomes. The world wastes a lot of food, medicine and supplies daily; let us shun wastage in our respective homes by ensuring that we give what we do not really need to the poor instead of letting it go to waste.
Jesus, Our Good Shepherd, lead us beyond our limitations and fears. Amen.
