Callista Gingrich, the wife of former US Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, will soon be nominated by President Trump to become the US ambassador to the Vatican, according to multiple media reports. The White House has not yet announced a nomination, and Newt Gingrich would only tell the New York Times that he and his wife were being “very cautious” about public statements on the possibility. Pope Francis prays in silence for all mothers in heaven and on earth

Pope Francis has invited faithful in St Peter’s Square to join him in silent prayer for each one’s own mother, including those in Heaven. Greeting tourists and Romans on Sunday from a window overlooking the square, Francis noted that in many countries Mother’s Day was being celebrated. Irish Jesuit Priest beatified

On May 13, an Irish Jesuit, Father John Sullivan, was beatified at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in Dublin.  Father Sullivan (1861-1933) was son of Sir Edward Sullivan, 1st Baronet, the Lord Chancellor of Ireland. He grew up as an Anglican in Dublin, became a Catholic at 35, and was ordained a Jesuit priest at 46.
