21ST THURSDAY HOMILY ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: BE READY

BY: Fr. Paul Karabari

Matt 24:42-51

“Watch, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”

Beloved, life is fragile and swift. What feels secure today can vanish like smoke by dawn. The Eternal One sees time differently. What seems long to us is but a breath to Him. In this truth lies a warning and a comfort: we are called not to drift in forgetfulness but to live with urgency, because every tick of the clock draws us closer to the moment when the Son will appear without announcement. This is not a tale meant to frighten, but a truth meant to awaken hearts dulled by routine.

Our deepest task is to cultivate a love that grows beyond measure. Faith cannot remain hidden or stagnant; it must bear fruit in kindness, mercy, and holiness. Imagine standing face to face with the King. What will matter then is not possessions or achievements, but whether our lives carried His fragrance through selfless acts and unwavering trust. The reward is not for those who pretended, but for those who stood firm even when weary, who forgave when it was costly, who gave when it hurt, and who chose compassion when anger seemed easier.

The Lord Himself reminds us: “Watch.” The imagery of a thief jolts us to reality. None of us knows when the decisive hour will strike. It will not be announced with fanfare, but with silence that startles the unprepared. Many will be caught off guard because they allowed comfort, delay, or distraction to lull them to sleep. But for the vigilant, what seems like sudden shock becomes radiant joy; the long-awaited Bridegroom finally at the door.

So I urge you today, awaken your soul! Number your days, treasure every sunrise as a gift, and let your hands be instruments of light. Do not say, “There is still time.” That whisper of delay belongs to the enemy. Instead, let every prayer, every act of charity, every sacrifice of obedience be your readiness. When He comes, may He find us faithful; hearts burning, lamps shining, lives prepared. For blessed are those whom the Master finds awake. GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE. God bless you and your household always through Christ our Lord Amen. Good morning.
