30TH THURSDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: I MUST GO ON
BY: Bishop Gerald M Musa
A well-known proverb says, “It is better to live one day as a lion than a hundred days as a sheep.” Jesus exemplifies this courage, showing us how to stand firm even in the face of threats. When some Pharisees warned him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you,” Jesus replied, “I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my course. Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following” (Luke 13:32-33). His response is unwavering, showing that he would not be deterred, distracted, or dismayed from his mission, despite the dangers and hostility around him.

With only a short time to complete his mission, Jesus refused to let threats intimidate him—even those from Herod. He teaches us resilience, showing how to confront adversity with faith, believing in God’s protection: “The Lord is our stronghold, savior, and shield in whom we take refuge” (Psalm 144:2). Jesus remained steadfast and faithful through hardship, committed to fulfilling his mission to the very end.
Often, we may feel the urge to abandon our good works, missions, and responsibilities when faced with obstacles and opposition. Jesus’ words, “I must go on today, tomorrow, and the following day,” inspire us to persevere. How courageous and faithful are we in moving forward to accomplish our God-given tasks?
