31ST TUESDAY HOMILY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: GOD INVITES ALL
BY: Bishop Gerald M Musa
A wise saying goes, “Never refuse an invitation; never resist the unfamiliar.” This reminds us to accept invitations and embrace new experiences, such as joining in important life events like weddings, birthdays, or milestones in support of our loved ones. In the Parable of the Wedding Feast, Jesus uses the story of a ruler (representing God) who invites many to a banquet, symbolizing the Kingdom of God. However, the initial invitees make excuses, prioritizing their businesses and personal matters over the invitation. Disappointed, the host sends his servants to invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind—people often seen as outsiders or marginalised.

This parable illustrates the inclusive nature of God’s Kingdom. Those who initially dismiss God’s invitation are warned that worldly preoccupations can lead to missed blessings. In contrast, those who accept the invitation with faith and humility, regardless of their background or status, are joyfully welcomed. This message invites us to reflect: are we open to God’s invitation for a deeper relationship with Him, and are we prioritizing our spiritual growth alongside our daily commitments?
