32ND SUNDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C.

THEME: “HE IS GOD, NOT OF THE DEAD, BUT OF THE LIVING”

This is the 32nd Sunday in ordinary time. Death is part of nature. There is time for everything. Turn by turn all things living go back to the owner of life. For those who believe in God, death is a gateway to everlasting life. This hope in everlasting life sustained the seven brothers who never contravened the law in the face of torture (cf. Mc.7:1-2, 9-14). For them, death is not a process of annihilation rather, it is a means of enjoying the fullness of life itself. The reason for this strong belief is that Jesus died and resurrected from the dead. He rose to give those who believe in him the assurance that life is a gift from God and only him has the right to take it back.

The saying, “He is God, not of the dead, but of the living” (Lk.20:27-38), means that to live is to acknowledge that all life comes from God. The fact of the resurrection is an assurance that those who believe in Christ do not die, rather, they live on forever. It also implies that, when this earthly life is ended, another life begins uninterrupted by any principality or power outside God. This uninterrupted life is everlasting and no one can extinguish it. All who believe and do the right thing, live forever. They shall be like the angels.

For this reason, the resurrection of the dead is life in the presence of God forever . With God there is no end to life. All those who died at peace with God will experience everlasting happiness and joy. Their mortal bodies shall put on immortality and they shall sing the glory of God forever. Therefore, let no one think bad against another. Let no evil intent be nurtured in your heart against another. Only those who love others and maintain peace shall resurrect to live forever. You are part of this everlasting happiness if you love others as you love yourself. “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who has given us his love…strengthen you in in everything good that you do or say” (2Thes. 2:16-3:5). Happy sunday.
