32ND THURSDAY HOMILY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: THE KINGDOM IS PRESENT
BY: Bishop Gerald M Musa
A kingdom is a territory or community ruled by a king or queen. When Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God, the Pharisees understood the word “kingdom” in the ordinary sense and asked, “When will the kingdom of God come?” Jesus answered, “The kingdom of God is in your midst” (Luke 17:21).

In simple terms, the kingdom of God is the place where God rules. This kingdom is different from the animal kingdom, where might is right and where the struggle for dominance and ruthless competition is the order of the day. Thomas Szasz, a renowned psychiatrist, draws out the difference between the animal and human kingdoms when he says, “In the animal kingdom, the rule is, eat or be eaten; in the human kingdom, define or be defined.”
Contrary to the features of the animal kingdom, the kingdom of God reigns wherever there is justice; the kingdom of God reigns wherever the love of God is supreme and wherever people love one another; the kingdom of God reigns wherever truth prevails and wherever peace is found. In short, the kingdom of God exists wherever the will of God is done.
Every day, we pray to ask God, “May your kingdom come” (adveniat regnum tuum). May God’s kingdom reign in our hearts, in our families, in our organizations, institutions, nations, and the whole world.
Do I promote the kingdom of God on earth by sowing good seeds and bearing good fruits through my daily activities?
