33RD SUNDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C

HOMILY THEME: THE NEW WORLD

BY: Fr Emmanuel Nwokeji.

HOMILY: We are gradually coming to the end of year in church’s liturgical Calendar. The first reading Mal: 3:19-20 and Lukan Gospel 21:5-19 are reminding us about the end of the world of injustice, hatred, sin and suffering, that is, the present age. Also, the coming of the new world. This world to come will begin at the dawn of the day of Lord.

Besides, this Day of the Lord will be terrible as it was terrible at the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem.
The inhabitants and authorities of the temple expelled Jesus, the God with us. Consequently, the presence of God left their temple and destruction came upon them.

In the same way, if we expel the presence of God in our lives, ruin and destruction may take us unaware, and the destruction of our own temple will be more disastrous, because the the destruction of the spiritual temple is worse than the physical. Therefore, let us endure and preserve in good works, thoughts, and deeds. May God help to abide in his presence both now and forever.
