3RD FRIDAY HOMILY OF THE EASTER — YEAR A

3RD FRIDAY HOMILY OF THE EASTER — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: BECOMING AN AGENT OF CHANGE
BY: Fr. Isaac Awe
Acts 9:1-20; Psalm 117:1-2; John 6:52-60
Jesus chose the time of the Jewish Feast of Passover to fulfil what he had announced at Capernaum giving his disciples his body and his blood as the true bread of heaven. Jesus’ passing over to his Father by his death and resurrection – the new Passover is anticipated in the Last Supper and celebrated in the Eucharist or Lord’s Supper, which fulfils the Jewish Passover and anticipates the final Passover of the church in the glory of God’s kingdom. When the Lord Jesus commands his disciples to eat his flesh and drink his blood, he invites us to take his life into the very centre of our being. That life which he offers is the very life of God himself. Do we hunger for the bread of life?

Many were confused in today’s gospel reading when they listened to Jesus. Most of us too are confused regarding the vocation we are into like that of Ananias in the first reading of today. God sent Ananias on an unknown journey but the assignment was Carried out without fear but in faith. Hence, Ananias was instrumental to the transformation of Saul. Ananias was available, accessible, approachable and attentive to be used by the risen lord.
Reflection: What are we remembered for, good or bad?
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you nourish and sustain us with your very own presence and life-giving word. You are the bread of life, the heavenly food that sustains us now and that produces everlasting life within us. May we always hunger for you and be satisfied in you alone. Amen.
