3RD SUNDAY HOMILY IN ADVENT [YEAR B]

2ND SUNDAY HOMILY FOR LENT - YEAR B

3RD SUNDAY HOMILY IN ADVENT YEAR B

THEME: “BUT THERE STANDS AMONG YOU- UNKNOWN TO YOU…”

BY: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu

This is the 3rd Sunday of Advent (Yr.B). Everyone is busy preparing for holidays. Many shops, supermarkets and street-marts are full of goods for big sales. Business owners have no time to waste in making gains. Airlines and other transporters are running night and day. Churches are being decorated and choir groups are busy practicing Christmas carols. Groups are throwing “end of the year’ parties. St. Paul’s says: “Be happy at all times; pray constantly; and for all things give thanks to God, because this is what God expects you to do in Christ Jesus” (1Thes. 5:16-24).

ALSO RECOMMENDED: HOMILY FOR THE 3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT [YEAR B]

Yes, it is a time of great expectations. Every baptized Christian should bodily say: ” The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken” (Is. 61:1-2.10-11). Yes, the poor are filled with expectations, ready to be fed by the kindhearted in their vicinity.

Amidst all these festive moods the expected King is among us without being noticed. John the Baptist said; “but there stands among you – unknown to you- the one who is coming after me; and I am not fit to undo his sandal-strap”(Jn.1:6-8.19-28). Jesus is God with us. He is already in our midst. Let us notice his presence among us in the poor, the needy and the marginalized. May God bless our preparations for Christmas amen. Safe travels to everyone.
