3RD THURSDAY HOMILY IN THE ADVENT — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: THE HUMAN BABY JESUS!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Jer 23:5-8; Psalm 71(72):1-2, 12-13, 18-19; Matt1:18-24
It’s exactly eight days before Christmas. Yes! These eight days have special readings to suit the mood. Today, we go back in time to take a look at Jesus’s human history. He was of the tribe of Judah. No wonder Jacob gathered his sons in the first reading to remind them how important Judah is and to bless them. He tells them that the sceptre shall not pass from Judah, nor the mace from beneath his feet until it comes to whom it belongs; that is, Jesus Christ the son of God.

Similarly, the gospel reading traces Jesus’ human history as well. We come to realise that Jesus did not fall off the sky. He didn’t have a perfect human lineage either. There were many sinners, as well as Saints in his family line; ordinary human beings who rose from grass to grace. Friends, as we enter these eight days, let us remember that just as Jesus came into human history and purified it, so also shall he purify us this season and always, by his special grace.
Good morning dear. God bless you real good.
