4TH FRIDAY HOMILY OF THE LENT — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: BE PRUDENT

BY: Fr. Paul Karabari

Wis. 2:1,12-22; John 7:1-2,10,25-30

“Jesus went about in Galilee; he would not go about in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.”

For every goal you set, there could be some potential obstacles. The ability to know how to manoeuvre to get to where you really want to be is very important. In the Gospel of today (John 7:1-2.10.25-30), the plot to kill Jesus grows stronger, and Jesus knows about it. Remarkably, He doesn’t rely on His divine power and simply moves into the net of His enemies. He is avoiding them.

We can be more than godly in claiming divine protection for what we already know to be dangerous. We must learn to select our battles. It doesn’t mean we are weak. It doesn’t mean we don’t have the resources to fight. God’s unfailing protection also works with the gift of prudence.

Today, the serenity of the world is ravaged and threatened by deadly conflicts. There are wars in some places. Some people have consistently deduced the logic of religious faith instead of observing the normal precautions. Everything in life is seasoned, but one doesn’t have to drag with one’s destiny. Avoid what can be avoided while keeping a firm focus on your goal. The ability to know what is harmful is itself a gift of grace. Jesus is not afraid here, yet He is avoiding untimely fulfilment of His mission. Prudence is key to fulfilling your goal. Sometimes, there are people, places, and situations we need to avoid. They may not be healthy for our growth, relationship, business, or career. GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE. May God heal our world. God bless you and your household through Christ, Our Lord Amen. Good morning.
