4TH MONDAY HOMILY IN EASTER — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: JESUS THE GATE
BY: Bishop Gerald M. Musa
Acts 11:1-18; Psalm 42:2-3; 43:3-4; John 10:1-10
Many gates promise life, but only Jesus’ Gate leads to it. The Good Shepherd is a dedicated guardian of the salvation of souls (1 Peter 2:25), and so Jesus the Good Shepherd says, “I am the gate (door).” As a true shepherd, He lies across the gate (door) to prevent intruders and wolves from entering and attacking the sheep. He is the gate (door) that leads to life, and He is the gate (door) through which believers enter into a relationship with God the Father. He operates an open-door policy where everyone is welcome, irrespective of age, ethnicity, party, or creed.

After the resurrection of Jesus, the early Church, which was predominantly Jewish Christians, was reluctant to embrace Gentiles (non-Jewish members) until Peter had a vision in which he was instructed to make no distinction between Jews and Gentiles. This vision is significant because it means the gate of salvation is open to everyone and every person. In a world where discrimination is rampant, God revealed to Peter that the Holy Spirit works in all those who believe, no matter their culture, colour, or class.
There are so many gates in the modern world, just as there are many ways of life, but Jesus is the sure gate that leads to a new relationship with God; the gate to new life, and the gateway to eternal life. Do you recognise Jesus as the Saviour and Shepherd who gives you the fullness of life?
