HOMILY THEME: STEADFAST FAITH IN GOD.

Heb 12: 1 – 4, Mk 5: 21 – 43
On this first working day of week four in Ordinary Time, the Liturgy presents to us the theme of steadfast faith in God. Faith holds us firm in the face of challenges, and makes us resilient and confrontational towards evil.
The first reading (Heb 11: 32-40) recalls the victories and glories of the kings, judges, prophets, and holy people of old, who lived their lives in faith on God’s ability. It encourages the Jews who now believe in Jesus, that with Him, all of God’s promises will be fulfilled even if it is slow in coming to pass. Faith indeed is accompanied by patience! Are you patient enough to wait for God’s promises to be fulfilled in your life?

In the gospel (Mark 5: 1-20), Jesus delivers a man possessed by Legion, a multitude of evil spirits, and sets him free. He commissioned him to go and tell his people God’s goodness in his life.
Dear friends, our faith is constantly being tested. In our patience, at times, we can be turned into “patients” because we are weighed down by the legion of difficulties facing us. This could be physical or spiritual. However, Jesus is able to unbind and set us free. Is there any habit or sin that I need Jesus to unbind me from?
I pray that as we journey in life today, we will remain steadfast in faith and believe that no destructive force can keep us from the peace and safety God promised to those who seek Him. “Though a thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at you right hand, you yourself remain unscatched… Because you have made the Lord your refuge and the most high your fortress (Ps. 91: 7, 9). May the liberating power of God break the chains that hold us back from enjoying the freedom and peace of the children of God. Have a liberation-full day!
