6TH SUNDAY HOMILY FOR ORDINARY TIME YEAR B

THEME: JESUS, THE HEALER OF ALL INFIRMITIES!

BY: Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike

HOMILY: SCRIPTURAL TEXTS : Leviticus 13: 1-2.44-46, Psalm 32: 1-2.5. 11 (R. 7) 1 Corinthians 10:31-11: 1, Mark 1:40-45

Child of God, may l ask you, what can Jesus the Great Doctor not do ?

If He went around doing good, curing all diseases and cured a man with leprosy by the power of the words of His month !
I will; be clean.”

My dear one, Dont you think Jesus can do the same for us today to purify our mother earth from this deadly Corona virus pandemic ravaging our world now ? and to deliver us from other dangerous Corona viruses hidden in our hearts : doing evils, kidnapping of ordained men and consecrated women of God, killing and wasting of innocent blood done by Boko Harams and Herdmens, bad leadership, silent killings done by our politicians,

Only Jesus has the power and remedy to do and undo all things, but he needs our collaborations and participations of ” simple faith” that moves mountain and that makes things happen.

**Let us listen to the Gospel of (Mark 1:40-45)*
*
At that time: A leper came to Jesus begging him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. And he sternly charged him, and sent him away at once, and said to him, “See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to the people.” But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter.

The above Gospel Reflection, shows us the UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, GOD HAS FOR US.
What a loving Father, do we have in JESUS ! who never cease of thinking of our well being always ( Ps 8 ) “what is mortal man that you care for him , O Lord ..? . you made him little less than the Angels.

Look at how this leper came to Jesus, begging him and kneeling down with FAITH, to tell him, his heart desire, ” IF YOU WILL, YOU CAN MAKE ME CLEAN ” remember the leper did not use imposing words like” *you must make me clean today, No, but he left Jesus the good Doctor to do his will. Jesus, whom only can study the heart was “MOVED WITH PITY, PASSION AND COMPASSION, God of the miserable ‘ MISERICORDIA ” cured him Immediately from his leprosy.

May l ask you, what type of leprosy are you carry ? Do not forget that in you and l exist leprosy of sins, lies, hatred, backbiting, cheating lack of sincere love for God and one other etc.. it was said in the Gospel that “THE LEPROSY LEFT HIM” my dear friend let us go to Jesus the everlasting PHYSICIAN, who cures, heals, protects, forgive sins, delivers and saves without money but ” only with the power of the words of his mouth ! He stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him ” l WILL, BE CLEAN “
What a privilege and joy for we Christians to have a Mighty God, close to us to answer our prayers.

At the end, what did Jesus asked the cured leper to do ? ” Go , show yourself to THE PRIEST and **OFFER FOR YOUR CLEANSING* this reminds me of the words of the Psalmist ( 50 v 13 :15 )   But  l do not eat or drink the blood of goats?
But “ make a Sacrifice of Thanksgiving offerings  to God,  fulfill your vows, to the Most High, and then call upon me in the day of trouble;  I will deliver you, and you will honor and glorify me.”

May l ask again Child of God, for all the things God have done for you and is still doing in your life, how many times have you gone to the Church and to your Priests and shown and make appreciation Thanksgiving offering to God ?

Let us pray ;
Lord Jesus, l thank you for being my SAVIOUR, only say a word again, and l shall be healed Amen.

Happy Sunday and Happy new week of total healing from Jesus the great Doctor

Always on my knees for you in prayers.

Your Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike, Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco.
