6TH TUESDAY HOMILY OF THE EASTER — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: THE POWER OF PRAISE!

BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Acts 16:22-34; Psalm 137(138):1-3, 7-8; John 16:5–11

One of the channels I’ve missed most on Dstv is “One Gospel”. That channel provided such a ‘praise’ background to my daily activities that I felt a bit empty when it was removed. Nothing compares to praising God in all situations. Paul and Silas, who had already experienced the ‘joy’ of being called gods, were today thrashed mercilessly and thrown in prison. They could have complained and whined about their situation, but they chose PRAISE, while the other prisoners listened. And God delivered them and saved the others through them.

Friends, St Augustine in the earlier years of his life felt a deep emptiness. He delayed his baptism, refused to go to Church, kept procrastinating, and refused to be converted. He knew he had to change. But he had gotten so engrossed in weakness that he could not find the will to do so. And he erroneously felt he could find answers in worldly knowledge. But through the incessant prayers of his mother St. Monica, and the inspiring teaching of St. Ambrose of Milan, he finally came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and was saved. May we learn faith and resilience from Paul and Silas, and true conversion from St. Augustine, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead. St. Augustine, pray for us!
