7TH FRIDAY HOMILY IN THE EASTER — YEAR A

7TH FRIDAY HOMILY IN THE EASTER — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: LET GOD TAKE THE WHEEL!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Acts 25:13-21, Ps. 103:1-2,11-12,19-20, John 21:15-19
It’s so wonderful to BE in control, to FEEL in control. Why else do we refuse to leave the steering wheel of our lives to God, even after we’ve promised we would? I remember when my Dad was giving us driving lessons back in the day. He would take back the steering wheel at every little mistake we made; he couldn’t trust us enough at that stage, to keep him safe. But God is different. He entrusted Peter with his lambs and sheep even after Peter denied Him thrice.

Friends, trust should be mutual. If God continues to trust us, despite our failings, we must not hesitate then, to let go of all our troubles and let God take the wheel. Paul trusted God completely in all his trials. If after praying, we continue trying to fix things we have already prayed to God to fix, what does that make of our faith and trust in God? I’m not saying we shouldn’t always make efforts, but we must do so realising that all power ultimately belongs to God. The decision to love God can put us on trial like Paul; it can lead us to pain, torture, sorrow and distress. But it also leads to peace and the eternal reward that cannot be compared to anything else.
Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
