8TH FRIDAY HOMILY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: FAITH MOVES MOUNTAINS
BY: Bishop Gerald M Musa
Jesus says, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:22–24). What are the mountains that confront us? Who and what are the forces that stand in the way of our happiness? There is nothing too big that we cannot ask the Lord for. We can say to him, give me that mountain, and if we ask that in faith and confidence, he will give it to us.

Paul the Apostle says, “We are more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37), and this is because “Greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Our faith is not only for performing miracles, but our faith motivates us to persevere, to be charitable, and to do what is right. Therefore, the writer of the book of Sirach is full of praise for people who lived and died with a strong faith in God. He says, “Their righteous deeds will not be forgotten; their prosperity will remain with their descendants” (44:10–11). What a glorious assurance! Faith is a gift of God. Do you always remember to ask God for the gift of faith?
