8TH FRIDAY HOMILY OF THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: OUR POSITIVE RESPONSE TO GOD’S WORD

BY: Fr. Isaac Awe

Mk 11:11-26

And he will be like a tree that has been planted beside running waters, which will provide its fruit in its time, and its leaf will not fall away, and all things whatsoever that he does will prosper.(Psalm 1:3)

Each of us has received a special grace (1 Peter 4:10)

Do we know our worth before God?

Are we using the grace for God’s glorification or to jeopardize the future of others?

What are we known for ?

At what point are we always remembered?

Are we still in connection with the grace giver(God)?

Are we fruitful or barren?

Can we be fruitful with our present location? (Gen 3:9)

Everything will soon come to an end! (1 Peter 4:7)

Why did Jesus curse a fig tree?
Jesus’ cursing of a fig tree is a prophetic action against the faithlessness of those who rejected his message. For faith to be fruitful and productive, it must be nourished with the word of God (2 Tim. 3:16; Col. 3:16)and be rooted in love (Galatians 5:6).

Reflection: Remember, “Everything will soon come to an end”! (1 Peter 4:7)

PRAYER: Lord increase our faith and make us fruitful and effective in serving you. Amen

Happy Weekend!
