8TH WEDNESDAY HOMILY OF THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: FROM PAIN TO GAIN

BY: Fr. Isaac Awe

Mark 10:28-31

In our gospel reading today, Jesus saw the challenges of life coming but faced it with faith in the Father who sent Him. Many of us are dying before the real death comes through fear of the unknown, how to satisfy the world, how to compete with the world forgetting that all things shall pass away but God’s words and plans remain. Boycotting the challenges of life isn’t the best but facing it once and for all is the best option even though it demands sacrifices which is a must to pay in order to have eternal freedom and lasting joy.

The ransom Jesus paid sets us free from the worst tyranny possible– the tyranny of sin and the fear of death. Jesus’ victory did not end with death but triumphed over the tomb. Jesus defeated the powers of death through his resurrection. Hence, what we need to know is that life is a process and no one can boycott the processes of life. It may be slow but it’s certain and sure. For those who wish to outsmart the processes by running, fall is not far from them. There are some sacrifices as humans which we need to pay in order to have a better story to tell tomorrow. Do we want the greatest freedom possible, the freedom to live as God truly meant us to live as his sons and daughters?

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, your death brought life and freedom. Make us servants of your love, that we may seek to serve rather than to be served. Amen
