The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki mourns the passing of its beloved bishop, Peter Nworie Chukwu, who departed this life on April 10, 2026, at the age of 60.

Ordained to the priesthood in 1993, Bishop Chukwu devoted over three decades to the service of God and His people. In 2021, he was installed as the 3rd Bishop of Abakaliki, where he shepherded the faithful with humility, courage, and unwavering faith.

In recognition of his dedication and leadership, he was recently elected Assistant Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria. Even in this new responsibility, he remained steadfast in service until the Lord quietly called him home.

A man of peace, a compassionate father, and a true servant of Christ, Bishop Chukwu lived a life poured out for others. His passing leaves a profound void in the Church and in the hearts of all who knew him.

Yet, as people of faith, we do not grieve without hope.
For the shepherd who faithfully led others to God
has now returned to rest in His eternal embrace.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. Amen.
