CYCLE I: HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 14TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

THEME: Carpe Diem (Seize the day)!

HOMILY: Gen.28:10-22; Matt.9:18-26

Fr Michael Erohubie once told the story of how a family sold all they had in order to afford sea passage to another country, in search for greener pastures. As the journey progressed, the family remained in their cabin, afraid to mix with the other passengers in the mighty ship. They carefully rationed their food and water, for fear that it might not last through the journey. However, one day, the last boy of the family sneaked out of their cabin and went for a tour. It was then he discovered a restaurant that served all passengers their meals three times daily. Unknown to the family, their fare covered these meals. Ignorance had nearly killed them.

Friends, sometimes, the greater problem is not realising that God already does his best for us on a daily basis. In today’s first reading, Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Truly, the Lord is in this place and I never knew it!” But he made sure to make the most of the opportunity as soon as it was morning. We must be more like the officer in today’s gospel reading, who knew what God could do, even though his daughter had already died. We see a similar disposition from the woman who had the hemorrhage for twelve years. She knew that just a touch would heal her, and so it was. So, God is with us always, doing wonders. We simply need to SEE it!

Good morning dear. Have a great week ahead!
