DAILY HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 13TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE I  (St Thomas, Apostle).

THEME: The example of Thomas!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY: Eph. 2:19-22; Ps. 117:1.2 (R. Mark16:15); John 20:24-29

Let’s think about our lives for a second. I’m sure there have been times we’ve been almost destroyed by doubts. There have been times the storms have been so overwhelming, we’ve begun questioning God. So there’s a sense in which we all have been doubting Thomases at one time or another. But what’s important about Thomas’ doubt is that it led him to a much deeper confession of faith. When Thomas encountered Jesus in today’s gospel reading, the words, “My Lord and My God”, took on a whole new meaning. He became the first Apostle to call Jesus God.

Friends, we must not lose hope when our trying situations reduce us to doubt. We must continue to hold on, knowing that God never gives up on us. Imagine how Jesus came eight days later, and specifically asked for Thomas. Jesus was interested in this one person who as yet refused to believe. In the same way, Jesus is interested in us. He wants us to doubt no longer, but believe. Let’s take a moment to think about all the situations that make us question God’s presence in our lives. Let’s commit those doubts to God, asking him for the grace to be like Thomas and make the much needed leap of faith.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend. St Thomas, pray for us.
