End times movies, or what we may call ‘Armageddon movies’ have a common theme which is about the end of the world. Such movies include Deep Impact; The Day After Tomorrow; 2012; Armageddon; World War Z; Contagion; This is the End; Zombie Land and much more. More credible information about the end of the world comes from scriptures where we read about the signs of the end times. Scriptures say cosmic signs, trials, great distress, and calamities will appear before the second coming of Jesus. People will die in fear of expecting what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Then they will see the son of man coming in great glory. Jesus says, “But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand” (Luke 21:28). Jesus encourages us not to be afraid or discouraged when these terrifying signs begin to happen but rather calls us to rise and direct our minds to the thoughts of God’s power and might and to lift our hearts in prayer to him and never to lose our inner peace. These fearful signs, tribulations, and great signs in heaven are not meant to cause what some scholars call rapture-anxiety, but to inform us and help us prepare our minds ahead of time. Information is power and to be forewarned, is to be forearmed. How do we comport ourselves amidst the catastrophes and calamities around us and in the world?
