Homily for Tuesday March 8 2022

Communication is about getting a message across and effective communication takes place when a message is well delivered, successfully received, and well comprehended (understood). God communicates effectively with us verbally, non-verbally, directly, and indirectly using different media (channels) of communication: through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, Scripture, nature, prophets and people, events, and different situations of life. He sends forth his truth, blessings, and love like the rainfall. His word is compared to rainfall which enables plants to grow, produces results, and brings about fruitfulness in the earth. He says, “The word that goes forth from my mouth shall not remain empty, but it shall accomplish that which I intend, and prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11). His word may come through a poor channel such as a boring preacher, a cheap unstable microphone, via strange language, poorly written literature, unusual or unuworthy channel, but will still produce obuious, subtle or invisible results. As God communicates effectively with his people, Jesus taught His disciples how to communicate with God effectively through prayer, without babbling, not using many words, and devoid of empty phrases. He said to His disciples, “Pray then, like this: ‘Our Father, who art in heauen…” This pattern of prayer taught by Jesus is short but contains all the elements of prayer – praise, contrition, gratitude, and petition. How effective is our communication with God through prayer?

Isaiah 55:10-11; Matthew 6:7-15 TUESDAY, IST WEEK OF SENT.
