As long as you have repented of your sins and have confessed them, God forgives you. Your past becomes history, and they can no longer stand against you before God.

THEME: LEARNING TO LISTEN

HOMILY FOR SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 17 2022

In communication studies, there are different listening styles. Among these styles is the informational listening style in which our primary goal is to gather information and critical listening, through which we analyse what we hear. Jesus observes people’s different attitudes towards listening to God’s word and so he speaks about a farmer who goes out to plant seeds. Some of the seeds fell on the paths, others on rocky grounds and thorns; some other seeds fell on rich soil. This rich (fertile) soil which yielded a rich harvest represents those who hear the word, comprehend it (understand it), believe it, and translate it into their daily life. At different points in life, our hearts were like the path, the rocky grounds, the thorns, and the rich soil in which the seed was planted. At one time, we become productive and at other times we are far from yielding good fruits. Jesus wants us to listen with the heart and so He says, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it” (Luke 11:28). We are always in search of creative speakers and preachers but we should also learn to be creative listeners who listen attentively and with an open heart to the Word of God. Can we resolve to listen to the word of God with our hearts and make it bear fruits in our daily lives?

LUKE 8:4-15
