HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OCTOBER 15 2022.

It takes courage to proclaim our faith boldly, courageously, and publicly in a world where people are persecuted for their beliefs and where believers are ridiculed because of their religious values. Why is it that anyone who publicly shows his commitment to a sports club is called a fan or aficionado, but anyone who shows commitment to his faith (even without being intolerant of other religions) is easily branded a fanatic? Sometimes, to avoid being called fanatics, we compromise our beliefs and conform to the world instead of living by the teachings of our faith. Jesus declares, “And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, but whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God” (Luke 12:8-9). To acknowledge Christ is to bear witness to the values of the Gospel which consist of living a life that demonstrates love, faith, peace, hope, selflessness, mercy, perseverance, and purity. To deny Christ is to live a life that is contrary to the values of the Gospel which include living in hate, unbelief, selfishness, unforgiveness, pride, and impurity. Do we sometimes feel ashamed or afraid of openly professing our faith? What is the use of the inner conviction of our faith if this is not outwardly expressed through faith, hope, and charity?
