HOMILY FOR SATURDAY JUNE 4 2022

We tend to wander away from our God-given mission, especially when we pay attention to what God is doing in the lives of others and become blind to what He is doing in our lives. For example, when Peter saw John the beloved disciple, he asked Jesus, “…Lord, what about this man?” Jesus rebuked Peter’s inordinate curiosity by asking, “If it is my will that he remains until I come, what is that to you? Follow me” (John 21:21-22). In other words, Jesus instructs us to focus on the life and mission to which we are called, without interfering in the lives of others. Jesus focused on his primary mission which was to do his father’s business (Luke 2:49). Jesus challenged Peter to mind his business by telling him, “Follow Me.” Besides, Jesus teaches us to pay attention to the motives of our curiosity over the lives, affairs, ministry, or business of others. We should constantly ask ourselves and discern if our curiosity is for the sake of love, competition, or for some sinister or wicked motive? We can be so preoccupied with God’s blessings in the lives of others and be blind to God’s blessings and graces in our lives. Do you know that the best way to mind our own business is to be united with Jesus in minding his father’s business and doing the will of God?
