HOMILY FOR THURSDAY JULY 28 2022

There is a popular story of a lady who met her Pastor to declare she won’t come to church anymore. The Pastor asked, “But why?” She said she observed some people were gossiping; others were hypocrites, and some others were pressing their phones in the middle of worship. The Pastor asked her, “Before you leave the Church could you please take a full glass of water and walk around the church three times and make sure no drop of water falls on the ground?” After she did that, the Pastor asked, “When you were walking around the church holding the full glass of water, did you see anyone gossiping? Did you see any hypocrite or people pressing their phones? She responded, “No.” He further asked: “Why did you not see all these imperfect people? She answered, “It is because I was paying attention to the glass of water I was carrying and I was determined not to allow any drop to fall on the ground. So, the Pastor said to her, whenever you are focused on Jesus and your salvation, you pay little attention to the mistakes of others. Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind” (Matthew 13:47). Can we see the Church as a net with all kinds of members including the good and bad who are to be separated at the close of the age?

MATTHEW 13:47-53
