FRIDAY HOMILY: 3RD WEEK IN ADVENT – YEAR B

THEME: Simplicity is the new rich!

BY: Fr. Obinna Ezeaputa

Once upon a time, there was a wealthy businessman named John who lived a life of luxury. He had a grand mansion, expensive cars, and the latest gadgets. However, despite all his wealth, John felt empty and unfulfilled. He constantly compared himself to others and felt like he needed to keep up with the Joneses.

One day, John met a wise old man who lived a simple life in a small cottage. The old man had few possessions, but he was content and at peace. The old man’s happiness captivated John, and he inquired as to how he could replicate it.

The old man smiled and said, “Simplicity is the new rich. True wealth is not about what you own, but about what you value. I may not have much, but I have freedom, time, and love. I don’t need fancy things to make me happy.”

John was intrigued, and he began to simplify his life. He sold his mansion and donated the money to charity, bought a smaller house, and started spending more time with loved ones. He realized that true happiness came from relationships, experiences, and personal growth, not from material possessions.

Over time, John felt a sense of peace and fulfillment that he had never experienced before. He learned that simplicity was indeed the new rich and that living with intention and purpose was true wealth.

Blessings,
