HOMILY: 33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A.

HOMILY THEME: INVEST!

BY: Fr. Johnbosco Obika

HOMILY:
Matt 25:14-30
Every businessman knows the importance of investment in business. Those who invest get more rewards. In spiritual life the rule is the same, there is no room for lukewarmness and dormancy, one can either increase or decrease.

In the gospel of today, Jesus uses what is obtainable in the business world to teach us something about responsibility over God’s gifts and talents we have, to put them into good use for the service of God and our neigbours and be ready to account for them. To get reward or rebuke is our decision.

God is so generous to all his children. No one is less talented, no one is less gifted. God gives each his gifts. He gives according to the capacity and uniqueness of the receiver. All we must do is to discover our individual gifts and talents and invest them for increase rather than hibernating into despondency and redundancy. God has given man the power to increase and multiply (Gen 1:28). This power is not limited to procreation. It cuts across all human positive endeavour including talents, gifts, wealth, health, grace, love and other virtues. So, every child of God has by the virtue of this command and power the capacity to grow and increase. Therefore, tap from the power of Divine increase.

We bury our talents and make it unproductive when we are envious of other people’s talents and gifts.

Another of our numerous problems is being afraid of mistakes. It was also the problem of the young man who buried his talent in today’s gospel. He was so scared that his one talent would yield a little and afraid of being looked upon as a failure. However, God trusts you. He has a level of confidence in you and has empowered you with necessary graces. So, don’t disappoint God, he will never disappoint you.
HAPPY SUNDAY!
