HOMILY FOR THE 3RD SUNDAY OF LENT YEAR B (9)

HOMILY FOR THE THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: CARING FOR OUR BODY; THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

BY:  Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu

HOMILY:

On this 3rd Sunday of Lent (Yr.B), Jesus cleanses the Temple in Jerusalem (Jn 2:13-25).

Earlier in the first reading (Ex 20:1-17)- the Ten Commandments were recounted to remind us what God expects of us. While the second reading (1Cor 1:22-25) tells us that the foolishness of God is greater than any human wisdom. All these help us to know why Jesus came in the human flesh to identify with us and show us the way to God. Money is not the giver of life. The house of God is meant for prayer not for any worldly enterprises. Then, the body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, the Sanctuary of God, that is why there is resurrection. Jesus is the perfect example of the one who died and resurrected. He strengthened our hope through his resurrection from the dead.

The Lenten season gives us the opportunity to prepare for the resurrection of our bodies.

Happy Sunday.
