HOMILY FOR 1ST WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY FOR 1ST WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: CONSIDERABLE AND CARING HIGH PRIEST
BY: Fr. Isaac Awe
HEBREWS 2:14-18, MARK 1:29-39
“Therefore, it is fitting for him to be made similar to his brothers in all things, so that he might become a merciful and faithful High Priest before God, in order that he might bring forgiveness to the offenses of the people”. ( Hebrews 2:17) . Hence, we are to keep in mind the sayings of Jesus in Matthew 28:20, “ I am with you till the end of time”. This will only be realistic through our faith and trust in God (John 14:1) in our moments of trials and difficulties. He is the only way to our present situation.

Who do we take our troubles to? Jesus’ disciples freely brought their troubles to him because they found him ready and able to deal with any difficulty, affliction, or sickness which they encountered. When Simon brought Jesus to his home, his mother-in-law was instantly healed because Jesus heard Simon’s prayer. Do we allow Jesus to be the Lord and Healer in our lives, families, and communities? Let us approach him with expectant faith. God’s healing power restores us not only to health but to active service and care of others. There is no trouble he does not want to help us with and there is no bondage he can’t set us free from. Do we take our troubles to him with expectant faith that he will help us?
Reflection: Those who seek other gods increase their sorrows. (Psalm 16:4)
PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, you have all power to heal and to deliver. There is no trouble nor bondage you cannot overcome. Set us free to serve you joyfully and to love and serve others generously. May nothing hinder us from giving ourselves wholly to you and to your service. Amen.
