HOMILY FOR 25TH WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: TRAVEL LIGHT!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Prov 30:5-9; Psalm 119:29, 72, 89, 101, 104, 163; Luke 9:1-6
If Jesus were to come today, perhaps he would be disappointed with our lifestyle. What justification do we have to live luxurious lives when the flock of God is languishing? Today, Jesus tells the Twelve to travel light because he wanted them to take the good news far and wide. But we simply are unable to do this when we clutter up our lives with too many material possessions. Perhaps this is why the people of God can’t leave ministers of the Gospel alone. They believe we’re wealthy, even when we’re not. They prefer to ask us for money rather than for prayers. Notwithstanding, the apostle is expected to give every thing he/she has to alleviate the pain and suffering of others.

In the exercise of our duties, the prayer in the first reading becomes a ready compass: “do not add to God’s words, lest he rebuke you, and you be found a liar…” Many men and women of God do this today just so that they can milk their flock dry. “Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full, and deny you, and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.” Amen. When we try to live by this wise prayer, we learn to travel lighter for the sake of God’s Kingdom. May God help us all, Amen.
God bless your day ahead!
