HOMILY THEME: MARTHA WORKS; MARY LISTENS

BY: Fr Deotacious Chikontwe SMA

Gal 1:13-24; Psalm 138(139):1-3, 13-15; Luke 10:38-42

FROM OUR FIRST READING
In our first reading, Paul shares the story of his conversion. After encountering Jesus, he did not immediately rush into preaching. Instead, he took time to reflect and wait on God’s timing. This teaches us the importance of patience when following God’s plan for our lives.

LIFE LESSON FROM OUR FIRST READING
Dear friends, often, we feel like we need to act quickly or make things happen on our own. But Paul shows us that trusting in God’s timing is key. There is wisdom in waiting and allowing God to guide us when the time is right.

FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
Our gospel reading, shows Jesus visiting Martha and Mary. Martha is busy working, while Mary sits at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him. Jesus says that Mary has chosen the better part because she focuses on being with Him. This reminds us of the need to balance work and prayer in our lives.

LIFE LESSON FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
Martha’s work is not wrong, but she becomes distracted by it. This can happen to us as well. We can get so caught up in our responsibilities that we forget to spend time with God. It is important to remember that both work and prayer have their place, but we should not let one take over the other.

CONCLUSION
In our own lives, we might be tempted to rush into decisions or force things to happen. But todays first reading, reminds us that God’s timing is always better than our own. Like Paul, we should have faith that God knows what is best and when things should happen.
Today finally, we are called to find that balance of life. We are meant to serve, but also to sit quietly with God in prayer. Both are necessary, but spending time with Jesus must be a priority.

I wish you all a Blessed Tuesday, May God bless you always.
