HOMILY FOR 29TH TUESDAY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: STATE OF READINESS

BY: Bishop Gerald M Musa

Lk 12:35-38

To live wisely means striving to maintain a clear conscience, ready to face the Lord at any moment. Jesus advised His disciples, “Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks” (Luke 12:35-36).

Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, offered wisdom during his 2005 Stanford University commencement address. Reflecting on life, he said: “When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: ‘If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.’ It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

How vigilant and prepared are we for Jesus’ second coming? Are we faithfully serving, spiritually awake, loving one another, and persistent in watching and praying?
