HOMILY FOR 2ND THURSDAY OF EASTER — YEAR A
HOMILY FOR 2ND THURSDAY OF EASTER: YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: GO GOD’S WAY!
BY: Fr. Oselumhense Anetor
Acts 5:27-33, Psalm 34: 2,9,17-20, John 3:31-36
Have you ever had a moment when you got called by a superior authority, and told to stop what you were doing, even though you knew deep in your conscience that you were fighting a just cause? That’s exactly the situation the Apostles found themselves in today. The high priest had specifically warned the Apostles to stop preaching about Jesus. But they understood that the high priest was abusing his powers. Peter and the Apostles said in reply, “Obedience to God comes before obedience to men…”

Friends, St John tells us today that God is above all others. But in carrying out his will, we must learn to be charitable, even towards those who strive to frustrate our efforts. We must learn to RESIST evil like people who truly believe in Jesus Christ, and are interested in eternal life. It doesn’t matter who says we shouldn’t. What matters is following our consciences. Don’t stop fighting for truth, justice and fairness. Don’t stop preaching about Jesus and the power of his resurrection, don’t stop doing your best.
Today, let us also strive to follow the sample of St. Joseph the worker, who had to provide daily for his family with hard manual labour. And as we pick up our rosaries today for May Devotion, let us reflect on the power in the rosary and Mary’s special role in our salvation.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for this new day and this new month. Make me bold enough to follow You rather than the world. May I always appreciate the dignity of labour, never attempting to ‘cut corners’ or seek fast gains. May I not be too lazy to say the rosary daily, especially during this month of May. Amen.
Good morning; Happy Workers Day, Happy New Month, Happy May Devotion, and God bless your day ahead.
