HOMILY FOR 4TH FRIDAY OF THE LENT — YEAR A
HOMILY FOR 4TH FRIDAY OF THE LENT — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: “THE LORD IS CLOSE TO THE BROKEN HEARTED.”
BY: Bishop Anthony Ewherido
Wis. 2:1,12-22; John 7:1-2,10,25-30
As Holy Week approaches, the gospel readings dramatically portray the hostility against Jesus, as well as the multiple attempts to destroy him. The first readings follow suit by portraying the wickedness of evil people against God’s prophets or just and righteous children. It just seems that there are people whose preoccupation in life is to make life difficult for others; sadists, who rejoice at the sufferings of others and make sport of them. If you are one of such people, God invites you to total conversion this season. Divine judgment is certain.

Also, we should not stand by and watch others being persecuted and oppressed without speaking out or taking action to turn things around. To those who endure such suffering, especially because of their faith, Christ, by his example, invites to be firm and trusting in our faith. Life is full of trials. Some come our way inadvertently. Others are either self-inflicted or by human agents or by forces that are alien to us. Whatever the situation is, we must endure to the end because that is how we prove our faith and trust in God. God never abandons his own.
Merciful God, deliver us from every evil. Amen.
