HOMILY THEME: “DO NOT BE AFRAID; FROM NOW ON YOU WILL BE CATCHING MEN”

Isaiah 6:1-2,3-8, 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, Luke 5:1-11
This is the 5th Sunday in ordinary time. As the crowd gathered at the Lake of Gennesaret to listen to Jesus, so also do we gather in the church on Sundays to listen to the same Jesus. When God asks “whom shall l send to preach my word” he does not mind our human limitations. Whoever he sends he prepares and cleanses. Like Isaiah, who said, “I am lost for I am a man of sinful lips” (Is. 6:1-8), God cleansed his mouth to strengthen him. He became ready and said, “here l am, send me.”

As Christians, some of us are given the grace to preach the word of God to others. Paul says, “the grace God gave me has not been fruitless”(1Cor. 15:1-11). We also must not allow the grace of God in us to be fruitless. One who preaches the word of God prepares people for the Kingdom of heaven. Paul and the other apostles preached this same word.
Like Peter, all Christians are called to be fishers of men. This means that their way of life should be attractive and not repulsive to others. Jesus attracted much crowd to himself always. He observed the crowd carefully to know their needs. He pitied the apostles who caught nothing all night (Lk. 5:1-11). He made them catch much fish. Because they believed in him, he changed their job into catching men . That is, making others to know the truth about faith in God. May our lives inspire others to follow Jesus, amen. Happy Sunday!
