HOMILY FOR CHRISTMAS VIGIL MASS

HOMILY THEME: THE PRIVILEGE BEYOND IMAGINATION

BY: Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare

HOMILY:

(Is 62:1-5/Ps 89/Acts 13:16-17, 22-25/Mt 1:1-25)

Two situations meet today. A weak, sinful, unworthy humanity knows her need for a Saviour. Again, humanity is not oblivious of the fact that she does not deserve to receive the Lord in her midst. Like John the Baptist, we are not worthy to receive the Holy and Almighty God in our midst.

The other situation is that of a God who, eagerly, seeks to mingle with his people for their good. He delight in his people irrespective of their condition and situation. It is so consoling and empowering to read the first reading. God calls his people his delight, his bride, his glorious crown, a royal diadem, and the people with an espoused land.

God is born for us. We do not deserve his presence. We have been privileged and blessed. Ours is to join the Psalmist in singing the goodness of the Lord. A heart of gratitude should be our attitude in this new altitude granted us by God. Let us welcome the Saviour with Praise and Thanksgiving.

PRAYER POINTS
~Thanksgiving to God for his loving generosity
~That God will purify us to receive the Lord
~For the grace to accept the blessings of the Saviour
