The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is the doctrine that the Virgin Mary (not Jesus) was conceived without original sin. She was not born with that twist in our nature that pushes our will towards what it knows is not right. This celebration is so ancient that Islam even has its own version of it. But it was only in 1854 that Pope Pius IX in the Constitution ‘Ineffabilis Deus’ of Dec., 8, pronounced and defined that the Blessed Virgin Mary “in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin.”

Friends, we may have inherited Adam’s sin, but we have been washed clean by our Baptism into Christ and His Church. We cannot afford to push the blame of our sins on another like Adam and Eve tried to do in the garden of Eden. It is time to like Mary, say a well-informed ‘Yes’ to God. The kind of ‘yes’ that reminds us that we have become adopted sons and daughters, and chosen from the beginning to inherit salvation. So go to confession today, attend mass, receive Jesus Christ, and hold firmly to the Rosary, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. O Mary conceived without original sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead!

Try to attend Mass today as it is a Holy Day of Obligation for all Catholics.
