HOMILY FOR DECEMBER 9, MEMORIAL OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE.

THEME: Children in the market place?

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Is.48:17-19; Matt.11:16-19

A gathering of children can be full of surprises, not to mention the confusion and indecision. It’s a lot worse when they are in the market place – noise is multiplied. Children shouting at each other cannot be alert to the more important things of life. Listen to what Isaiah says in the first reading, “if only you had been alert to my commandments, your happiness would have been like a river, your integrity like the waves of the sea. Your children would have been numbered like the sand… Never would your name have been blotted out before me.”

RELATED: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF ADVENT.

Think about this for a second. The serious person does not follow the counsel of the wicked, nor linger in the way of sinners. Instead of trying to pick out reasons why we must not follow the teachings of the gospel, let’s rather be humble and change from our evil deeds. Where are those who insisted John was possessed and Jesus was a glutton, drunk, friend of tax collectors and sinners today? Many years ago, the impression of our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to a peasant, Juan Diego, at Tepayac hill Country in Central Mexico. This impression defied even modern science. No artist strokes can be seen. No known paints are used. It survives (from 1531) till date. When the Bishop was told about this picture he initially refused to believe. But he later came around. Friends, it’s time to come around and move away from the childish crowd; it’s time to stay away from all the noise.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.
