HOMILY FOR FRIDAY 24TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – CIRCLE I

HOMILY THEME: GRATITUDE

BY: FR. JUSTIN NZEKWE

As Christians, we should always live a life of gratitude. Gratitude, because we are privileged to have a father in heaven who cares for us regardless of our weaknesses and imperfections. We have to be grateful because God loves us so much that he sent his only begotten son to take human flesh and to die on the cross in order to save us. We have to be grateful for the gift of life, family, relatives, health and other gifts we have received from God. We have to be grateful that we are among those who received the good news of salvation. In the gospel reading, the women that were healed of evil spirit and infirmities by Jesus were grateful. They collaborated with the twelve apostles to serve in the church, using their time and goods for the service of the gospel. What about you? How are you showing your gratitude to Jesus for dying a painful death on the cross in order to save you? How are you showing gratitude to God for the many blessings you have received from him, especially the gift of life he has given you today?

We have to learn to say “thank you Jesus”, every day, even when we are going through the difficult moments of our life. The first reading teaches us the importance of preaching the correct gospel, without changing the exact message of the gospel. The gospel which we receive from God is a treasure that cannot be taken for granted. It should not be used for personal gains, or to entertain ourselves. The message of the gospel must not always be sweet to our ears, sometimes it can be bitter to accept. However, the message of the gospel can never mislead us, it will always be for our own good. We pray in this holy mass for the grace to appreciate the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our salvation, and the grace to always live a life pleasing to God.
