HOMILY FOR FRIDAY JULY 8 2022

The expectations and conditions of service given to the Apostles in the gospel (Matt. 10: 16-23) are not in any way attractive by human and worldly standards: they will be dragged to court, persecuted, rejected, abused and even be put to death. However, in all these, Jesus promises to be with them in the power of the Holy Spirit. All that is needed is faithfulness and trust, for God’s promises will always be fulfilled.

The first reading (Hosea 14: 2-10), the conclusion of the Book of Prophet Hosea, summarizes his message: “the kingdom of Isreal has been unfaithful, but if they return to the Lord, God will restore them and give them new prosperity as they deepen their relationship with God. The images of growth, frangrance, fruutfulness give hope to the people”. We are being reminded that it is never too late to turn back to God and seek restoration of a relationship with God. God’s promises never fails. “I will fall like dew on Israel. He shall bloom like lily…” (Hosea 14: 5).

Dear friends, the enthusiasm to answer God’s call can only be sustain by faith and trust. In doing the will of God, there is always a struggle with opposition from within us and outside of us. God has promised us safe arrival but not without turbulence.

I pray as we journey in life today, we will remain firm in God’s ways no matter the odds against us. Let us at the same time reach out to support those who are going through tough times in their lives as we all are on the journey towards salvation. May our faith and trust in God lighten our burden and give relief to others. Have a trust and faith-full day!
