THEME: Get ‘dirty’?

HOMILY FOR FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 9 2022

1Cor.9:16-19,22-27; Luke 6:39:42

Preaching the gospel has to go beyond talking theological principles down at people from a ‘high-up’ pulpit. It is more about coming down, living with the people, and showing them God’s will amidst their daily life’s struggles. St Paul tells the Corinthians today that he has become a slave to everyone so as to win as many souls as possible. Not because he was compelled to do so, or because he expected some reward, but because of a wreath that never withers – salvation.

Friends, a blind man can’t lead anyone. To be able to show God’s path to others, we too must first become a lot more aware of our own weaknesses, that we might ask God for grace to overcome them. This is the only way we’re able to guide others to the right path. When we refuse to get down into the valleys of life and get dirty, we become hypocrites who think we’re better off than everyone else. We become blind guides heading ourselves and others to a pit. May this not be our portion, and may we never forget the mandate we have to spread God’s word, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
