INTRODUCTION
Good morning dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we celebrate Friday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time, Year A.

FROM OUR FIRST READING
In our first reading of today, the apostle Paul, spoke to the faithful in Rome about how the nature of their human flesh and existence may bring about conflict and interference with their obligation in serving the Lord and following Him. St. Paul mentioned how he himself was also constantly tempted and persuaded by the desires of the flesh and the body, which was contradictory to the path of the Lord. He mentioned that while his inmost self and overall his whole being agreed with the Lord and obeyed Him, yet, there was indeed that part of him which kept on trying to drag him out of the path of righteousness and obedience to God, which is caused by the temptations and the weakness of our human flesh and existence.

FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
In the gospel reading Jesus criticizes his contemporaries for not knowing how to interpret the times in which they were living. They are failing to take seriously the presence of God among them in the person of Jesus and are also failing to respond to his call to conversion and renewal. They know how to interpret the signs in nature which suggest the kind of weather that is on the way but they do not know how to interpret a much more fundamental reality, the ministry of Jesus in their midst.

CONCLUSION
The gospel reading calls on all of us to interpret the signs of the Lord’s presence in all our lives, and to discern what the Lord is asking of us and calling us towards. The Lord has some purpose for our lives and there is always an urgency about that purpose; the Lord looks for our response in the here and now. We need to be alert, ready and keen, in response to that sense of urgency that the Lord feels in our regard.
The Lord is present to each one of us just as much as he was present to the people of Galilee. We too need a sense of urgency in responding to the Lord’s presence, the Lord’s call. We too need to be alert to the significance of the signs of his presence among us; we need to read the signs of his presence to us and act accordingly.
